Th’ Legendary Shack Shakers at The Underworld, London

Rockabilly; The only scene where the guys spend as much on hair products as the gals, and there are some mighty fine quiffs and mohawks in attendance tonight!

Sadly the scensters stayed at the bar for Th’ Legendary Shack Shakers set, but they were not missed, it was so packed down the front not even a rattle snake could shimmy through the crowd.

Walking on dressed like an extra from Boardwalk Empire and taking out his congregation with an invisible machine gun, JD Wilkes, sets the tone of the night to be a honky tonk roller coaster of musical evangelism.

Never have I seen fans so pleased to be drenched in spit and sprinkled in pubes plucked straight from the Colonels belly!
TLSS have released 3 more albums since I last saw them, supporting Robert Plant, so their set is now a greatest hits of Southern Gothic punk n Roll.
With never a dull moment to let the sweat dry before the next sermon is bellowed out, like a man possessed.
JD Wilkes twitches, kicks and punches his unseen tormentors, but I hope he never fully exorcises his demons as Jello Biafra put it, he is “The last great Rock and Roll frontman”

Th’ Legendary Shack Shakers, the best hillbilly, punk rock strip show I’ve ever been to!
